Archaeological walking to “Cerro de la Encina” in Monachil, Sierra Nevada

Apart from visiting the Cerro de la Encina archaeological site, you will also know about the formation of these beautiful mountains, which are part of the Sierra Nevada natural park. This is the palaeo-environment where the ancient people of Cerro de la Encina lived.
The Argar culture developed during the Bronze Age between 2500-1500 B.C., it was very advanced for those times. A complex familiar organisation and social classes, specialized work, a flourishing trade and technological advances, which made human life easier and characterized the social structure.
The ancient people used the barter system for their trade relations, and they constructed a very complex trade route.
The prehistoric settlers of the Cerro de la Encina, 3600 years ago, chose this place for several reasons: The hunting, the forest, the mining and its strategic position.
The pleasant path runs nearby the water channel de los Albaricoques (of the apricots), providing a refreshing environment accompanied by the sound of the water, while we see vegetables gardens representative of smallholding agriculture.
